- Equinix, Flexential, TierPoint, H5, CoreSite and EdgeConneX all started selling space for AI after ChatGPT came out. Digital Realty was already doing it in 2022.
- 64% of the operators that sell AI give no power figure per rack. 18% say they can supply 100 kW or more, about what a rack of Nvidia's GB200 servers draws.
- 34% of the operators that sell AI offer liquid cooling.
- 80% of the listed bitcoin miners and hosts we read now sell space or computing for AI, against 20% in 2022. 73% still mine bitcoin.

A site counts as selling AI when it offers space, computing or services for AI by name. AI that comes up only in the news, as a trend or as the company's own tool doesn't count.

On its 2022 site, Riot Platforms, then Riot Blockchain, sold bitcoin mining and hosting for other miners. Its site now says its data centers are "built for high-density, energy-intensive workloads for AI and High-Performance Computing."

Working out what AI is worth to you?
We find where AI earns its keep in a company, then build it, and the client owns the software.
The data.
We read operators' websites as they were in 2022 and as they are in October 2026.
How we did it
The operators come from PeeringDB, the public database where networks list the buildings they connect in. It names 438 operators of US facilities with a website. We added 18 bitcoin miners and hosts, the companies on MinerTerminal's list of AI deals that we could identify plus Galaxy and Soluna.
Today means each site as it was in October 2026, read by a crawler that obeys robots.txt and doesn't get past a block. Where a site blocked us or was down, we used the Internet Archive's copy from August 2026 or later, which covered 20 sites. 2022 means the Internet Archive's copy closest to June 1, 2022, kept only if it falls in the 12 months before ChatGPT came out on November 30, 2022.
On each site we read the home page and up to three more pages that our AI model picked from its links. It looked for the page about the space or services the company sells, the AI page and the page about power or cooling, and the same rule picked the pages in both years.
Our AI model answered the same questions about every site in both years, and tied each yes to the line that shows it. A second AI reader answered again, without seeing the first answers, for every site where the first said yes or wasn't sure and for a random tenth of the rest. Where they disagreed, the second reader's answer stands. They agreed on 94% to 99% of answers, depending on the question.
Selling AI means the site offers space, computing or services for AI by name, such as AI-ready space, GPU colocation, GPU rental, an AI cloud or AI services. HPC without AI doesn't count. A power figure is a stated number of kW per rack or cabinet.
The comparison covers the 221 operators we could read in both years that sold data center space both times. It leaves out companies whose site is gone or that another company bought (33 of them), because the buyer's site describes a different business, and a few that block automated readers and have no recent archive copy.
This measures what operators say on their own websites. An operator can have AI customers and not say so, and a website can promise more than a building has.

Questions
How many data center operators sell AI-ready capacity?
On their own websites, 38% of US data center operators offer space, computing or services for AI in October 2026, up from 5% in 2022. 27% call their data centers AI-, GPU- or HPC-ready.
How much power does an AI rack need?
SemiAnalysis puts a rack of Nvidia's GB200 NVL72 servers at about 120 kW, an air-cooled rack of H100s at about 40 kW and an ordinary server rack at about 12 kW. Of the US operators that sell AI, 18% say they can supply 100 kW or more per rack and 64% give no figure.
Which data center companies started selling AI after ChatGPT?
Among the largest that now sell space for AI, Equinix, Flexential, TierPoint, H5, CoreSite, EdgeConneX, Cologix, CyrusOne, Evocative, DartPoints, T5, Netrality, Aligned and ColoCrossing. Digital Realty was already selling space for AI in 2022.
Are bitcoin miners becoming AI data centers?
Most of the listed ones are. 80% of the 15 listed bitcoin miners and hosts we read sell space or computing for AI today, up from 20% in 2022. 73% still mine bitcoin.
Does this measure what operators can actually deliver?
No. It counts what operators say on their own websites. Some may host AI work they never mention, and a site can claim more than its buildings can do.
